Stay Up To Date on Recent Scholarship with Content Alerts

Add This:

By signing up for “Contents Alerts” from journal distributors you can select journals that you like to follow and receive an emailed table-of-contents when each new issue comes out.  This shortcut will help you keep abreast of research in your own field or related interdisciplinary areas.   Often e-journals are available even before the hard copies are mailed out.  Anyone can register and get the free table of contents.

To get the full text articles, however, you will have to go through your own university library if it subscribes to electronic versions of each journal. Most large university libraries do.  At GMU, for example, we look up the journal in the library catalog to see if the library subscribes to an electronic version.  We click on that link and then are required to login with a password to access to the full text of the journal.  This process is probably similar at most universities libraries.  If your library doesn’t subscribe to the e-journal, you may choose to purchase the electronic article directly from the distributor or request a copy through inter-library loan.

Here are three journal distributors that cover many of the journals where IHS alums are publishing.

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/  Click the gold box on the right to register.  Once registered, look for links to sign up for e-alerts to select journals.  Find publications of interest using “Publications” or “Browse by Subject” and choose "Get New Content Alert" from the Journal Tools menu.  Wiley supports alerts for nearly 1,000 journals.  Check the boxes for those journals you’d like to track.

For example, I’ve signed up for the following.
