The Conference is taught by distinguished faculty, and provides an introduction to public choice. The Conference offers a unique opportunity for graduate and advanced undergraduate students to learn from, and socialize with, some of the most important public choice scholars in the world.

The National Press Association 35th annual Book Fair and Author's Night

Applications are now being accepted for the National Press Club Annual Book fair. They are looking specifically for books that are meant for a broad, general public audience as opposed to academic books, that have been published in the last year (November 2011 and newer). Applications are to be reviewed by the Book Fair Committee and are accepted on a rolling basis. This is a great opportunity if you have a more popularly aimed recent publication as it is an event with a lot of publicity.

Prague Conference on Political Economy 2012

“Interdisciplinarity, The Future of Social Sciences?”

The purpose of the 2012 Prague Conference on Political Economy is to gather papers that will focus on the challenges that multidiciplinarity brings to social sciences and policy-making in the beginning of the 21st century. Both theoretical and empirical papers are expected not only to address the current state of the discipline but also to envisage new perspectives for its development. The conference will welcome papers discussing issues at the intersection of economics, law, political science, history, philosophy, and other humanities.

More specifically, some of the research questions the participants might address are:

- Law-and-economics in the 21th century

- Austrian Economics and mainstream solutions to economic crises

- Libertarian paternalism and “NUDGE” and public policy

- Do social scientists need more interdisciplinarity or not?

- Heterodox approaches vs. the mainstream in social sciences

- European integration at the crossroads,

- Challenges to economic freedom measurement – China  and the Nordic Model

Participants to the  PCPE 2012 will have the opportunity to attend the symposium celebrating the seminal work and the 80th birthday of GUIDO CALABRESI, professor at Yale and Judge of  the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. The topic of the symposium will be “Law and Economics as an Applied Science. The Legacy of Guido Calabresi”. During this symposium, lectures will be given by JULES COLEMAN, Yale University; ENRICO COLOMBATTO, Università di Torino; MARC GEISTFELD, New York University; JAMES HACKNEY JR., Northeastern University; LAURA KALMAN, University of California at Santa Barbara; ALAIN MARCIANO, Université de Montpellier 1; STEVE MEDEMA, University of Colorado; GIOVANNI B. RAMELLO, Università del Piemonte Orientale; KIP VISCUSI, Vanderbilt University; and BRADLEY WENDEL, Cornell University.

Location

The Conference will take place in the quaint and newly reconstructed building of the CEVRO Institute (school of legal and social studies) in the heart of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic.

Please submit abstracts of your papers to josef.sima@vsci.cz.   The deadline for submission is June 30, 2012. Decisions will be made by July 15, 2012.

Grove City College announces a faculty opening in the Department of History beginning in August 2012. A Ph.D. in History preferred with focus in modern history, specifically European and/or non-Western.  Interest in history of minorities a plus.  Responsibilities include teaching courses in those areas and interdisciplinary humanities courses in the College’s core curriculum. This position also will assist in developing and guiding student research opportunities for history majors.

Candidates must evidence a strong record of classroom teaching, scholarship within their field, and a commitment to instructing highly motivated students (1244/1600 average SAT for entering freshmen). Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications. The Idaho Journal of Law and Public Policy (IDJLPP) is a newly founded libertarian and conservative journal at the University of Idaho Law School. They are looking for Assistant Editors who would be responsible for contributing at least two blog posts a week, which could lead to eligibility for publication in the print edition. As part of Milton Friedman’s Century, Free To Choose Network has kicked off the “What Milton Means to Me” video contest!  The contest is open to all ages and offers a chance for you to tell the world what, exactly, Milton Friedman means in your life.  Whether it’s a personal encounter you had with him or a change in perspective caused by reading or viewing his works, Friedman has impacted the lives of so many around the world and we’d like you to tell your story.  Write poem, compose a rap, create a Milton Friedman flashmob or come up with something we’re not even smart enough to think of – just be creative and have fun!  Prizes total $2,500.

There are also rewards for teachers/professors who spread the word by offering a $250 bonus if their student wins!
